GWAR's JiZMak Da Gusha Supports Petition to Replace Robert E. Lee Statue with Oderus Urungus
It's been a big week for the removal of colonial statues in the U.S. and abroad — and in Richmond, VA, it appears efforts are one step closer to the removal of the city's Robert E. Lee monument, now that GWAR band member JiZMak Da Gusha has co-signed a petition to take it down.

Earlier this week, former GWAR affiliate Slymenstra Hymen (a.k.a. Danielle Stampe) posted a doctored photo of late band member Oderus Urungus atop the Lee platform. Later, a GWAR "scumdog" used that photo to launch a Change.org petition in support of erecting such a monument and calling for the takedown of the Lee statue in the name of anti-racism.

In a new video posted to GWAR's social media accounts, Da Gusha can be seen at the location of the proposed statue, praising recent vandalism on the existing monument and urging nearby people to sign the online petition.

"There is a petition to put GWAR on that horse instead of Robert E. Lee," he says to the crowd surrounding the statue. "I strongly encourage that everyone signs that petition online. Fuck that guy."

Oderus Urungus — a.k.a. GWAR founding member Dave Brockiepassed away in his home back in 2014 from an apparent heroin overdose. The artist was born in Ottawa, but moved to Virginia at a young age.

At the time of reporting, the petition to erect a statue in his honour has gathered over 42,000 signatures of its 50,000 signature goal.
