Published Jun 16, 2016Earlier this week, we were treated to some shirtless hi-jinx from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and James Corden through the late night host's "Carpool Karaoke" video series. What we didn't see from that particular shoot, though, was RHCP vocalist Anthony Kiedis heroically saving a baby who nearly choked to death.
A new interview with Kiedis has him explaining that the day nearly became tragic when a woman ran outside of her home with her baby, who was choking before Kiedis intervened.
"A woman came out of her house, holding a child saying 'My baby, my baby, my baby can't breathe!'" the vocalist explained to Radio X's Chris Moyles. "We all ran across the street, the woman thrust her baby into my arms, the baby was not breathing and I thought 'I'm gonna try and do a little baby CPR real quick, see if I can get some air in this kid.'"
Noting that the baby's mouth had "locked shut," he added:
So I started rubbing the belly, bubbles came out of the mouth, the eyes rolled back into place, the ambulance showed up and I handed the baby over, who was now breathing and fine, and we went back to 'Carpool Karaoke.' It was kind of a beautiful thing that we stopped for the dance off, [as] the baby needed help and we were there. The little baby looked at me the entire time until the ambulance came, little baby Nina.
You can watch Kiedis recalling the terrifying but ultimately life-saving moment down below, while you can peep the resultant "Carpool Karaoke" segment over here.
As previously reported, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' new album, The Getaway , will see release tomorrow (June 17) through Warner Bros. Records. The band revealed their music video for "Dark Necessities" this morning.
