Published Nov 23, 2020We recently learned that the wildly popular video game series The Last of Us has been considered for an HBO series, after which a pilot was officially shot. Now, it's been picked up to series.
Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin is set to write and executive produce the series, while his frequent collaborator Johan Renck will direct. The Last of Us writer and creator director Neil Druckmann will also work on the show, both writing and executive producing.
"Craig and Neil are visionaries in a league of their own," HBO's executive vice-president of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, said in a statement. "With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to resonate with both die-hard fans of The Last of Us games and newcomers to this genre-defining saga. We're delighted to partner with Naughty Dog, Word Games, Sony and PlayStation to adapt this epic, powerfully immersive story."
A timeline for the project is not exactly clear. Meanwhile, in the gaming realm, The Last of Us Part II was released in June.
